Hi allJust thought I should share the way I’m seeing this panty selling season going:
Slow, very fricking slow!
Some sellers admitted a slow down as well, some feel is the Xmas season, other blame it on Northern Rock (if you’re not from the UK, this translates as General Recession) or even global warning.
Which ever the reasons, I can honestly say things have been sluggish, tragically not only in the panty world. Even my “traditional” business has taken a knock. I had been working on a least 3 projects per months for the last 4 years, now I’m struggling to see where the next commissioned work is going to come from!
Besides the usual suspects and a few much loved regulars, in panty world I have hardily had any new business since October.
When I compare it to last year, I reckon a decline of at least 40%!!
I can’t say I’m doing anything different, in fact, if anything I have raised my profile significantly by become panty trusted and invested in a half decent website and blog….It would be good to find out if everyone else is facing similar dilemmas, or if you have any ideas…
PS: I’m going to link this thread to my blog…. by that I mean I’m going to copy and paste any replies as I have no idea how else to to this!
feel free to enlighten me….November 14, 2007 at 11:02 am #18346mikegukMemberS,
As a buyer, i tend to slow down buying at this time of year as its an expensive time. But i`m sure things will pick up with real soon and orders will start to flow again ;), Its just those winter blues setting in for every one.
MikeNovember 14, 2007 at 11:42 am #18347AnnaMemberI think it’s obvious. There are more and more newbie sellers than ever before. In order to compete, they are undercutting the established sellers.
The problems with this are:
The newbie seller sells ridiculously cheap because they haven’t realised the workload that comes with ‘just wearing some panties’. Once they realise the workload, or once they realise that buyers aren’t falling over themselves to buy her knickers the seller disappears, sometimes quietly, sometimes after a moan and some cut price (again!) sales that still don’t get the buyers running. They moan and lament their lack of success and then they are never heard of again.
The buyers aren’t clamouring for her knicks because she is one of dozens of cut-price sellers.
The newbies come and go, one replaces another and the established sellers, who have more realistic priced panties, based on their experience, attention to detail and added value suffer the consequences. The consequences are buyers who are less polite because a lot of sellers are too willing to give it away for nothing and put up with abuse in order to make the sale (if one seller markets herself as a ‘whore who is willing to please – scat? no problem’ then why shouldn’t the buyer think we all are?). Buyers are reaping the awards of a buyer’s market (but getting a lower quality product), and all-round lower sales for everybody.
From a buyer’s point of view, why buy panties at £40 when you can buy them for £8? So what if the seller goes out of business, half a dozen others will replace her. In fact, if the £8 panties are rubbish, what’s the loss? It was only £8, just try someone else and you may strike lucky. Loads better than taking a risk on someone who is asking £20 for her knicks.
I’m not surprised that sales have gone down for individual sellers. I believe that the same volume of panties is being bought, it’s just that there are so many sellers now.
The bottom has dropped out of the panty market
November 14, 2007 at 2:56 pm #18348GustavMemberI don’t mind paying £25/$50 for a nice pair of panties but above that I would need something very special, I really don’t care how much the panties cost new, if you are selling used panties I would think its a good idea to buy normal priced panties and sell them for a reasonable price, if someone wants to buy expensive panties they can always ask the seller and pay up front, and I’ve had so many items go missing in the post over the years I tend to buy from UK sellers that post them in the UK and use a guaranteed delivery service, even then 90% of the time I’m not really happy with what I get, so if I find a seller I like I tend to only buy from them

Hi Gustav
thanks’ for your comment, but I don’t quite get where this fits with my original post?! I guess was in response to Anna’s?
Either way, I buy expensive panties, I sell/wear them for profit and always get the buyer to pay them in advance! Don’t we all? 🙁
Recorder Delivery is a worldwide service, I use it here in Italy. So I’m not clear as to why who would not purchase off shore using such service? I can accept you like to purchase exclusively from sellers you trust, but come on! because of Royal Mail?? :idiot2:
90% unsatisfactory is however a very high percent…. sorry to hear that! Where have you been buying one need to ask?
Â
In principal I agree to every point Anna made, all industries (even Microsoft!) will eventually be challenged by a cheaper and nastier version. We just need to stand our grounds and market what we believe in!
But I do feel that something else in contributing to a general slow down of things… any ideas?November 14, 2007 at 6:36 pm #18351PiercedPantiesMemberAs a new seller and in response to Anna’s post – sorry! :cheer:
Looks like I came in at a quiet time – but I do believe that the Christmas season has a big impact on businesses as Serena says.
I can only hope that the new year will bring more business for all of us – and this quiet period will scare away the fakers/cheaps. If not:Â :knuppel2:Â hehe

November 14, 2007 at 9:45 pm #18353Ruby RedMemberAs a new seller, I’ve had business pick up, but who knows? Maybe it’s much busier in the summer. Is there a “peak” season?
And winter blues are no fun lol I made sure I soaked up some rays after seeing your post. My mood is sometimes affected by the weather :crazy2:
November 14, 2007 at 11:10 pm #18354genuinegirlMemberActually things tend to improve around Christmas … I think more people start spending more time inside.Â
I think if you lowered your prices a bit … or offered more pictures, you would sell more. Most guys aren’t going to shell out $80 for a couple pictures of the undies on the ground, no matter how artistic they are. Maybe look around more, and see what works for the majority of sellers.

But I do feel that something else in contributing to a general slow down of things… any ideas? It was a reply more or less to Anna’s but I will clarify a few points, recorded delivery is not enough, I only use special delivery as recorded delivery is a total waste of time, I’ve had plenty of recorded packages go missing, and the only type of mail I can use from the USA is Express which costs over £15, and what I meant about buying from one seller has nothing to do with Royal Mail, its because most sellers I’ve bought from are disappointing, there is no way of telling before you buy, most of the things I’ve bought are from Ebanned, I must have bought over 1000 items, I can tell by your reply you have a bad attitude to buyers, maybe this is why you are not selling much? Cheaper items are not necessarily nastier, some sellers just sell at a fair price, a lot of your items are over $80 and that’s for 24 hours wear, you talk on your site like people are lucky to be buying from you, I would say more but I can’t be bothered, I’m normally more friendly but sellers who think they are better than others make me angry

As a new seller and in response to Anna’s post – sorry! :cheer:Oops, just to clarify, I wasn’t having a pop at new sellers, it was more the amount of new sellers selling too cheaply.
November 15, 2007 at 10:07 am #18362SerenaMemberWell Gustav
In my defence $80 for a MiuMiu or La Perla pair or worn panties isn’t a lot! I sell Luxirious/Branded underwear!!
I’m not suggesting my service is for everyone, my audience is niche! I don’t sell often, when I do, I sell big which suits me best.Never the less, I don’t know you, nor I remember asking your opinion about my prices, and as apparenly you are not bothered… well… ciao!Â
This was not meant to be about me or my service, I was hoping to be able to find out if anyone else is feeling a slight recession, not necersarly just in Panty World!
I guess this winter blues isn’t helping hu?
Hot chocolate everyone?[quote author=Gustav link=topic=2776.msg18154#msg18154 date=1195083164]

Just a few points about your post i would like to comment on.1. Sorry to hear that you have and are having trouble with packages go missing. I find that strange though as in all the years i have been buying i`ve only once had something “lost” in the post. And besides, with recorded delivery there is a track back system to help locate any lost item!
2. You say you have to pay at least £15.00 ($30.00ish) for express postage from the US on top of what was your winning bid on the auction. From what i know about ebanned most items sell for around the $50.00+ mark, (i could be wrong as i don`t have access to ebanned) and you have found that most are disappointing? So why do you continue to buy from there and hasn`t there feedback system helped you at all?
3. You say that Serena has a “bad attitude to buyers”? from my dealing with Serena i have found that it to be the total opposite indeed! Have you even been in contact with Serena outside of this post?
3. Yes some of Serena`s items are very pricey, but at the same time they are top quality items, have you even been into a lingerie shops to see just how much top end items are?
4. Serena`s post was asking other`s if at this time of year things go quiet and what do others do about. Nothing else.Mike
