In renovating my site to take subscriptions I have learnt a bit of php, and as I know several of the other sellers have sites written mostly or all in php I was wondering, what is the advantage to doing it that way?

    Cherie,
You’ll notice that Panty Hog uses .php. I’m involved in the development of many new web sites every month for my “day job” (nothing to do with panties or adult sites), and I do everything I can to work with nothing other than .php. Unfortunately, .CF, .ASP, Perl, etc. need to be used in some cases instead depending on the job.

.php is extremely adaptable, and generally much easier to touble shoot. .php allows you to save a lot of time typically used for updating, changing content, developing templates, etc. All of that aside, .php is the language of choice for the open source community. In other words, there are thousands of people around the world developing hundreds of new applications and scripts using .php everyday. A large part of these programs are then made available for anyone to use at no cost. Not only can you use them, but because they are open source, if you have some skill in .php, you can modify them to fit your needs.

    Good Luck,
    PK

Well, php seems to be as easy to understand (the basics anyhow) as html, and once I figured out the include function I knew that I could easily convert my whole site to php (I’ve been using css stylesheets and server side includes to keep updating chores to a minimum anyhow).? I am a bit concerned that php will be less accessible to oddball browsers than html?

*hand up* I’m an oddball! You always knew it!!

PHP is a bit out of my depth but I’m a firefox user. I’ve recently notched my screen up and your site no longer works for me….I’ve been rejected and I miss you! :(  Lol.

The writing that was once a screen scroll down is now at the top behind your picture, as it’s black writing over a dark background it’s un-readable. Everything basically overlaps in the space of one screen.

I don’t have the foggiest how to make sites multi browser compatable, worth doing though because I know loads of FF users.

I’m 1024×768 on Firefox. Hope that helps sweetheart, look forward to your new look site

Not at all. .php is a processing language that talks to the server (computer) that the site is hosted on, it really has nothing directly to do with your web browser. Something similiar to the SSI you mentioned. Html markup and CSS are still required with .php, and those are the things that affect how the site appears in a browser. The official .php site is http://www.php.net/ if you haven’t checked it out…do. They have excellent tutorials for beginners to experts, and everything in between.  🙂

As PK says php is the processing language of choice in the open source community, it’s cross platform, connects to pretty much any backend database system and runs on pretty much every server operating sytem.

It’s also quick, much quicker than java for instance.? And as PK mentions there are lots of php scripts around that are open source to be used, changed, tweaked to your heart’s desire.

Jess, just think of php as a suped up java / javascript.? The screen problems you have with Cherie’s main page, may have more to do with css positioning differences between IE and Firefox.? I’m sure Cherie will sort that out though, whatever it is? 🙂

Whoosh! *that’s the sound of this thread going straight over my head*

Just checked and I was mistaken, the only bit that works for me is the shop. tbh I don’t experience major problems with FF, sometimes it munches sites up slightly but they’re generally usable. Anything’s better than the crap I used to get off IE.

I’m off to play with the boys in the locker room  😉

    Jess,

I’ve been doing such massive rebuilding it doesn’t surprise me you’ve had trouble.? I think the new layout will be more accomodating to viewers with different size monitors – it’s done with tables rather than divs now, which (I hope!) will be more consistent.? If you’re still having trouble please do write to me.? ?:)

    PK,

I thought it probably wouldn’t make a difference, but wasn’t sure.? I’m doing *all* new pages in php now, but there’s a few that I’d already made that’re still shtml which went all freaky (layout-wise) when I attempted to make them php instead.?

MASSIVE thumbs up for the new look site. The new look suits you much better.

Sorry to hear about the jip that company’s giving you, don’t drop the courtesan (sp?) name pleeeaase! What a stupid suggestion by that company, it’s obvious what you offer and what you don’t on your site. That’s the adult world for you though.

The new look loves my Firefox too, woo-hoo!

    Jess,

As expected, the billing company insisted on me dropping it, and since that’s the only company that really suited my needs (i.e. the only one that doesn’t charge a huge set-up fee!?) I went along with it.? Ain’t that always the way it is.? (I figure I’m lucky they didn’t object to worn-panty sales!)

But rather than use some lame-ass substitue I just decided to cut that section entirely.? I’m not going to change my blog title, and I can still work out the same kinds of arrangments with fellows “behind the scenes” so to speak.

It’s pretty funny, actually, that I can have that “Worship Me” page and not the courtesan one!
