Can you not shift the auction catagory to say January? Then get in to kahoots with ebanned and ebare etc and promote it as a celebration of auction girls?
I say this because:
1) I think auction girls are largely detached from the community as the auction sites are pretty much a community of their own. I don’t think many are even aware of us here. With a bit of help from newsletters and forums (ebare has their own dedicated forum now) I’m SURE they’d get involved and love it.
2) I think at times it can be a bit intimidating approaching this place. You know, some people loom about for weeks before posting, and just leaping in here might be tough for some. I think that’s even more so the case with us all up for nominations. Maybe we wouldn’t look like such big bad witches if we dedicated a week to the auction girls.
Probably wholly impracticle but just a thought.

Next year maybe those who were invovled in the nominations this year can get involved in promoting the awards far more in advance, that way everyone will be more prepared.
DavC… Love the Ranton and Rantoff, however, being an adult forum and site there really shouldnt have been any excuses for things to get heated in the first place, especially over something that didn’t even effect those posting!  I do love a good debate, though, I have to admit. 😛
As I said all along, being recognised for a nomination is absolutely wonderful but it is not possible for just one seller to enter the voting area as a one horse race with only her to vote for.
As DavC also mentioned, and I totally agree, it would just end up looking silly and like some sort of ridiculous procession going on – after all we are all adults here and not “Hello Kitty” fans are we not!

December 20, 2006 at 9:19 am #11449darkhairedkarenMemberPK has already decided the single-nominee-in-a-category issue, but should we ever wish to revisit it…
i. Voting needs to take place for a category to be awarded. Granted.
ii. Someone who is nominated may wish to have the chance to win that category by voting, even if s/he is the only one nominated. After all, it’s not the nominee’s fault there is only one person in that category.
So let the nominee decide if s/he still wants voting to take place if there’s only one person in that category. If it does go to voting, people can either vote FOR the one nominee (as in, “yes, I think s/he deserves to win this category”), or vote to close the category until next year (in essence, voting that someone other than the one nominee should be the category winner.) This way, if the nominee does win the category, it is through the endorsement of voters, not by default. There could be any number of good reasons why there aren’t more nominations for a category, including someone who learns about the awards after nominations close but in time for the voting. Just being nominated is already a form of recognition, so I don’t see the need to award categories simply by default; at the same time, I think it would be nice for a nominee to have a shot at winning whatever category s/he has been nominated for, regardless of the number of other nominees in the category.

I like that idea. -KK
