Yes, you can. Easily. So… has no-one wondered exactly how was the OP planning on cashing this supposed cheque having ensured that it was going to have a fake name on it…?
It may be that the OP expected her initial and surname to be used which would be okay but the ‘buyer’ put ‘Lucy Whatever’…rather that ‘L Whatever’.
January 26, 2008 at 11:54 am #19452PonygirlMemberCan you not get privacy protection for co.uk addresses? Mine is .com but I use a privacy protection service (purchased through my host) to prevent anyone being able to access any of my personal information. It only costs me £9 per year, you just can’t take chances with things like this. I have read this topic in shock, things like this just amaze me.

“BUT i didnt give my REAL name, the cheque arrived with the made up name i had given him on it. “I remain unconvinced.

We don’t need privacy protection for co.uk because we don’t need to declare our addresses, just our name.Personally I wouldn’t be happy declaring my name either, or having it viewable to anyone who does a domain name search. Maybe I am just paranoid!
January 26, 2008 at 2:07 pm #19462AnonymousGuestSo, did someone do a “who is” search to find out that she owned the domain? If that is the case, you certainly can change it, at least in the US you can..I forget what it’s called, but it’s definitely a “must” if you are running an adult website.
Do let us know what happens with the police.
Midwest sweetie is completely correct, the scam includes the check bouncing and you being out “everything” and more on top of the original amount. It happens all of the time, always on the news!
Good luck, a tough lesson learned :buck2:
January 26, 2008 at 2:23 pm #19464bbwlucy27MemberHi all,
Can i just clear a point up here. I stated to him that i only accepted cash, vouchers or a blank postal order, NO CHEQUES.
Therefore i was happy to give a made up name knowing that it wouldnt be used on payment. He also said that he would be sending cash hidden in a letter to me.
So i was never expecting to cash a cheque!!
I have since taken my private address of my site, thank you to everyone for letting me know that, as i said im learning as i go.
🙂
