How do you connect to the internet? As we plan for the future development of Panty Hog, it would be helpful to know how our members are connecting to the site. Please take a few moments to participate in the poll.
Thanks!
PKApril 21, 2006 at 4:18 am #7703KroozeMemberNo way!!! I’m not telling!!!
I have dialup because I get it free with my telephone service. I honestly can’t afford a high-speed connection.
Hey, you asked!!! 😉

April 21, 2006 at 4:26 am #7704adminKeymasterUnderstood Krooze. High speed is damn expensive here in the USA. Friggin greed is all it is. I bitch every month when my bill comes. No apologies necessary.
April 21, 2006 at 10:21 am #7717OzzyMemberThe definiton of “high speed” is kinda tricky tho. For example, we have different internet connection plans here.
You can choose to have 256k – 512k – 1024k or 2048k speeds with different monthly payments of course. Most popular ones are 256k or 512k here. I’m on a 512k adsl line here.
April 21, 2006 at 11:34 am #7718AnnaMemberWow, now that is interesting. I’m on broadband which is 2MB for only £17.99 a month. Is the US so much more expensive??
You should all move here guys

I pay $43.00 dollars a month for mine. Granted it is faster than 2mb, but still pricey in my opinion. Add to that the “government imposed” taxes and fees that the telecoms tack on to the bill and it is actually about $50.00. Fifty dollars may seem like no big deal by itself, but when you add your mortgage, car payments, cell phone bill, cable, electric, natural gas, student loan, and now $3.00 a gallon auto fuel, it’s isn’t hard to see why someone would skip the high speed if possible.

Good point Ozzy. Basically, I’m looking at how many people would be inconvenienced by autoplay flash or video additions. There are some really neat things we can do, but if it would screw over half the members, than of course we should hold off.
April 21, 2006 at 5:15 pm #7730OzzyMembergreat minds think alike.. I am planing on adding flash videos to my site too.
One drawback with flash video is that the quality is crap. If you want some decent quality you have to decrease the compression and end up with 20mb video for 2 mins!! What I wanna do is to put a 160×120 video with medium compression but mine will be for preview not as an actual video feed.
one thing i wouldn’t suggest – strongly – is the autoplay feature. first, it makes the pages load so slow (of course if you have a > 2mb connection it doesn’t matter)
second, say I’m at the office or there are people around or whatever … and visit phog.. all of a sudden a music or “ahhh”s “ohhh”s start blaring! well you can think of the rest lol
third and the most annoying is the fact that everytime you visit the page the same video starts playing automatically over and over again.
my recommendation is if you decide to put video on a page make it not autoplay. It better to click on the play button if you want to watch.
April 21, 2006 at 7:34 pm #7733jazzyMemberI have moved from dial-up to broadband, the difference is unbelievable, sadly not everyone has access yet but if you get the chance do try it.

April 23, 2006 at 1:16 pm #7752PRHMember I have made the update from dial-up over to highspeed recently! ( the only thing I have noticed about it so far, is its aliitle slower at times, but once you have found your target, your there and the chances of you loosing your connection is a very small headache compared to having dial-up! ) Would I ever go back to having dial-up service again? Probably not! ( I got myself a deal in the price of having it though, its the same price as I would be paying if I had dial-up service,so….. I went for it)! B) B) B)

April 24, 2006 at 2:40 pm #7770JulesMemberDial up connection here. 😥
April 24, 2006 at 3:25 pm #7771Delicious_JessMemberDial up.
DON’T DO IT PK!!! 😥 *sob*
Videos are a no-no for me, flash isn’t so bad. It’s a problem on Firefox too as it won’t load up more than one high demand item if you use dial up.
Out of ettiquette I’d say don’t autoplay. I think it’s a bit rude when they’re forced upon a dial up user. It kind of shuns us like we’re not welcome.
