Can an expert help.As most of you know i only know the on/off switch.
With the old chatroom you knew who was chatting ie.chatters on line.
Now i think you have to enter before knowing.
What if for example i’m having a chat to Cindy and new member x joins in we would feel obliged to welcome him/her and our chat may have to end or change.
vice versa i enter and Adam and Eve are chatting and i may not know them to well so i feel i am intruding but should stay.
I know i will have this all wrong but can someone enlighten me.
Old fool willing to learn.

Hi Jazzy,

Yes, unfortunately, the new chat does not yet have an associated program that will let me put a box up in the main area of the site showing who is in chat like our old chat did. This is something that is in the works, and I hope we’ll see it soon. So the short answer is that you’ll have to enter the chat to see if someone is there. Better yet, go to chat, and then re-size the pop-up window so that you can see if someone enters while you are looking at other Panty Hog areas or even another web site.

As far as the privacy issue, the new chat is actually better for this than the old. In the old chat, there was only one room. Everybody in the chat room was together whether they liked it or not. With the new chat, there are different rooms. When you enter, you are in the lobby. If you click on the name of one of the other rooms listed, you can leave the lobby, and go to that room. I’ve set up some rooms with different themes already. However, any chatter can create a new room for their needs and name it. If a group of chatters wanted privacy, they could simply create a room and label it “private” to prevent interuption. So, if the chatters aren’t in a room marked private, than it is assumed that the people chatting are wanting to chat with everyone. In other words, don’t ever worry about interupting someone when you enter the chat.
If you don’t know the people in there, it’s a great way to meet new people. If someone wants privacy they can create a private room.

As PK says Jazzy when you join chat you start in the ‘Lobby’ which is a general area, basically it’s a Public area for enyone to chat etc? 🙂

There are 3 pre made rooms for people to use

‘I Show You show’?(for people with their webcams on)? B)
‘Panty Chat’ (General Panty Chat room) and
‘Show me your Panties’?(Well the name says it all doesn’t it?)? :laugh:

If people want to have a Private chat, one of them can simply click the New Room button to the top left of Rooms and give it a name and in the description put Private, it might be an idea to also say please join by invitation only? 🙂 It’s not being ‘exclusive’ it’s just being polite to other users who may not realise they are intruding on a private conversation.? The Private Room will disappear after a while when chatters leave it? 🙂

As PK says, don’t feel awkward about joining chat and meeting people in the Lobby, it’s a Public area for members and it’s assumed if people are in there they want to chat and don’t mind people joining in? B)

🙁 I don’t really use chat rooms but I’ll be honest, I’m a bit sad about that concept, it’s a bit unwelcoming to find on a community board  🙁

It’s always a bit awkward if there’s 3 people chatting in a room, but to walk in and find private rooms and you on your lonesome kind of shuns people, especially as Jazzy has pointed out, the regulars will always pair off. It won’t be nice for newbies or shy users. Or an even worse senario, going in being that 3rd person and the other 2 going off in to a ‘no go’ room and leaving you!! Nightmare!! I’d have considered that if you didn’t want to community/general chat you’d Yahoo maybe?

A pm version would be at least a bit more friendly me thinks, one where you can invite peeps to whisper and a private pops up beside your name?? Or a svelt mode for when you enter for those popping their head in only to be dived upon by that 3rd wheel that’s been left on his own?

Just my thoughts on making it a friendly place for all, not just the regulars.

the concept of marking a room Private is really simply for people to be Private if they choose, the rooms aren’t really Private as any member can join as far as I can see.? In most chat rooms Private Rooms are a common thing to have.

I don’t think regulars here will pair off as such, the community here is quite open and I like to think that members here will not be unwelcoming of other members or new members trying chat out  🙂

There is an Instant Message function in chat where you can IM an individual, sort of a Private Messaging facility like you mention.? This can work, though it can be abused .. some asshat flooding a member with LOTS of messages and harrasing them and such.? On other forums and chat rooms I’ve used and adminned on those people tend to get a ban damn quick.? I don’t think there is a ban function on the new chat used here, and again I’d like to think that people wouldn’t abuse the IM function like that  🙂 Yeah I’m an optimist I know  😉

The idea of chat is simply to get to know people and have a bit of fun, it should be welcoming of new members trying it out and the normal manners used in real life meetings should be used.

There are lots of guides around for using chat rooms, but I don’t think as we’re all adults here, that we need sets of rules other than common sense and politeness 🙂

I agree that the Panty Hog should be welcoming of all new members in all areas of it .. and I like to think that it is 🙂

Jess, I think you’ll find the Panty Hog chat room is very welcoming to everyone. The chat room is much like this forum area. It is a great way for new members to meet other members and eventually  become “regulars” themselves. Knowing the regulars here at Panty Hog, I can’t imagine a single one of them excluding anyone wanting to join in a conversation. The issue of the private room was brought up only because of jazzy’s questions. Yes, it is possible to make a private room, but everytime I’ve peeked in, people were only chatting in the lobby. It’s like a big party that everyone is invited to, and the webcam function is really fun. Please do check it out for yourself.

The chat does have a block function. If someone were bothering you, you can simply click their name and then click “block” . This doesn’t kick them off of chat, but you won’t see any IMs from them, and their posts to the room won’t be seen by you. So, asshats won’t be very effective.

Since the chat room can only be accessed by Panty Hog (logged in) users, I’d think it would be very rare to have anyone causing difficulty for others. Just in case, I do have the ability to “kick out of the room for now” or “ban for good”.

I’ve tried out the new chat room and think it is wonderful!  smt  Like I needed another reason to hang around PHog 24/7!

I don’t envision us regulars hiding out in a private room all the time.  Last night/this morning was super fun because a whole bunch of us were all in the lobby and I could switch from the Cindy Channel to the Krooze Channel to the Leatherz Channel…  Is there no way to display all the cams at once?  :cheer:

A private room is a great option if some people are having a session that is, well, private.  :)  The Asseater Show comes to mind – perhaps it’s only for those who have acquired the taste for it, so to speak.  😉

Jazzy, that’s why you need to go out and spend $7 on a microphone! LOL No typing required!!!

I think that most people will congregate together and chat as a group. This community is still small (when you consider how many people will actually use the chat room) so being friendly and people chatting en mass will be the norm for some time to come.

there is a DOCK button at the left on each cam when you watch them, just press that and it will dock the cams to the bottom right in the chat area? B) That way you don’t have to swirtch channels so to speak? 😉

I hope PK manages to source a means of showing if people are in chat when you are on the forums .. I use the join chat and resize thing, but allowing others to see who is in chat will be good .. lets keep our fingers crossed that PK finds some way to do that? 🙂
