I would like some clarification please… This came to me in bed last night.

How come Kansas is said (Kan-zas)

But Arkansas is said (Ar-kan-saw)?  :huh:

I study English and do actually find things like that fascinating, maybe it’s just the American way *shrugs*

Teignmouth is Tin’muth

Barnoldswick is Ba’lick

Bicester is Bis’ter

Edinburgh is Edin’brur

but Scarborough is Scar’brur

Hurrah for the English language!

But it is funny when the Americans pronounce Birmingham (birm’n’gm) as Birrrr-minggg-haaaam :laugh:

And what about Leicester… pronouced Lester.. I on the other hand choose to pronounce it Lie-ses-ter… silly old language but as an english graduate I love all these quirks!
