Question for panty buyers

Do you prefer to buy your panties (and other goodies) from a site that has a registered domain or does it not matter to you if the site is free?

Good question!

Personally I prefer a registered domain.

It looks more credible.

Domain names are about $8-10 a YEAR and hostings are like $4-5 a month so I guess anybody can afford that much if you are serious about your business. yes its fun and all but it IS a business afterall.

Ozzy’s very right. Having your own domian throws you in to a completely new realm. When I auctioned I’d only get emails while my auctions were active. If I got a bit tired I’d not do an auction for a bit but with a site of your own you’re open 24/7 and you have to keep on top of it all. It’s hard!! It brings huge advantages though. It’s yours to play with as you want, they’re infinately more popular than freehosts, you can spread your links about and people trust that you’ll still be there next week because you’ve coughed up for the hosting, you’re less likely to be a fly-by-night. But by god, prep yourself for some work!! You get out what you put in, which is great. If you want to be a big time seller then you can be, just got to work loads.

My hosting co is fabulous & costs upwards of about ?40 a year. Make sure you get a great host, there’s some horror stories around and uprooting would be a huge job.

I do agree that having your own hosted site outweighs having a free hosted site, however, it does generally boil down to the individual running the site in the first place!

Word gets around and if you are good and take care of your clients they will come back no matter where you host – I mean look at dark haired karen – she runs her successful site from her blogger and its fantastic – I see it appear on page 1 or 2 of Google all the time!

Free hosting sites are perfect if you are just starting up and not sure if you will enjoy it or not, or simply just to practise your html before paying out for a secure decent hosting and then it going to waste because you cant handle it.? Free Hosted sites can also be good to run in conjunction with your auctions – you can have more pictures and more info about you for free!!

Jess – you started out on a free site too, just as I did.? Once you get your confidence running one of those then its time to move onwards and upwards 🙂

Also Jules – if you decide to set up a proper site, there are many people here who will help you – its a scary thing to do it alone but just shout and me and I am sure others will be more than happy to give you a hand. 🙂

Free hosted sites can be great to start out on before you want to make the big leap – we all have to start somewhere!

And being on Panty Hog and even posting in this forum is a sure way for buyers to get to know you on a more personal level, no matter where you have your site 🙂

Jess and Cindy, which free hosted sites did you use? I’d like to have a go with my own site, but being a technological doofus it would probably be a good idea to try a free site out first? :unsure:

My long term plan is to have a fantabulous site where I can list all the different things I offer in one place – anyone who has ordered from me will have seen The List, it’s quite extensive? :ohmy: And have photos and info and people can arrange cam sessions with me and it will be all mine… *dreams*

Be a little cautious on free hosted, many do not allow adult content.

This is true, not many free hosting sites like Geocities allow adult content -  its not like it was years ago.

However, you can always join panty trust 😉

You are actually given your very own page on there to play with, for free 🙂 – as long as you get yourself verified!

I did find an adult freehost that had no adverts on it, but It was too complex and it didn’t have a site builder. It’s seriously daunting getting your own but you can be confident the you won’t be in the thick of it on your own. I don’t think there’s a person on here who wouldn’t help you if they could. It’s suprising how quick you pick things up though.

Grabbing yourself a geocities is a great way of testing the water. It’s infuriating at first but you do get there in the end and it’s very rewarding. You and Linnie SOOO should get your own places, you pair are on fire  🙂 Hey, you should site share!  :laugh:

Make sure you get a great host, there’s some horror stories around and uprooting would be a huge job.

well you have a lot of advice from this thread and, I assume, from PM’s from the helpful sellers here.

I tend to buy from sellers with their own domains, but not exclusively, I’m sure that a wise man (Krooze) has posted on other threads that you have to get to know the seller and exchange some emails to see if you ‘click’ and new girls with a free hosting site can be just as good as registered domains .. if you ‘click’  :)  Bottom line is the buyer has to commit at some point and just try it, if things don’t work out then they move on, if they do then they have one more lovely supplier they can add to their favourites.

Best of luck with your site whether you stay with the existing one, or move to your own domain next year  B)
