Ok, I’ve thought about this enough and I guess I should add my (un)valued opinion. LOL
There are always going to be immature people in real life as well as online. I don’t think any system that works can be bulletproof when it comes to those types of people. For the most part, as long as a community like this one stays small, it will pretty much be friendly and not have many problems.
Anyway, I think the biggest problem may be in the word ‘smite’ itself. When I look it up in the dictionary, the closest definition to it’s use here is:Â To attack, damage, or destroy by or as if by blows.
Maybe if a less aggressive word was used, there might not be a problem? Maybe a word that is more in line with the positive word (applaud) like boo? I think using a word that’s less confrontational and shows more that there is just a difference of opinion might be enough to curb misuse.
Also, I’m torn on the idea of giving a reason for booing someone. It seems a bit arbitrary when it’s left to someone’s judgement as to if the booing is justified. It also puts undue stress on those making that call!
But I do feel that if I’m doing something that bothers someone enough to send negative Karma, I want to know what that is! If I did it accidentally, I’d like to know so i could make it right. If I think it’s someone just being too sensitive to something I posted, I can ignore it and move on with my life.
So, to sum it up (yeah, I know, finally), I’d say to use a less aggressive word and (I guess) make there be a reason given for the negative Karma.Â
No offense to anyone! I’m just offering my 2 cents… er… pence… er… opinion. 😉
