Today's Mass Emailing and Your Help Needed

Hello all,

If you checked your email, you know that we had an unfortunate situation today where a member was able to make a post and then announce the post. This sent her post by email to over 3,600 people, and I’ve been cleaning up the mess it caused for several hours now.

The forum is set to disallow announcing a topic. However, while our forum script/program has worked out well for us, it is an open source script that is forever being developed and tested for bugs. In other words, announcing a topic should not be possible, but somehow this member was able to do so. I have re-set the permissions and am hopeful that I have “fixed” the problems. However, I am asking every person who uses this board to please let me as soon as possible if you ever see a button showing that says “announce” or “announce topic”.

I do apologize that this announcement went out. I would like to say to those that emailed me with angry emails though that the terms of the site (that you must agree to when registering) clearly indicate that you agree to receive email from the system. We haven’t done a mass email for over a year before today, and very rarely do.

The email that did go out clearly states the directions for removing yourself from the mailing list, or closing your account alltogether. This can be done immediately through your profile area any time you want, you don’t need me to close your account for you. I’m always happy to help, and I understand that some folks might need assistance with this. Not a problem. However, if you register here, agree to the terms that say you may receive occasional emails and then you report the first one in a year as spam, compose nasty emails to our server host, rudely tell me to close your membership when you were sent clear directions on how to do it yourself…I reserve the right to send your registration data and the terms and conditions that you agreed to, to your ISP as proof that I have not “spammed” you.

I got that email too… twice… I read it and deleted it.

I agree with kelly.  bb I dont think there is a reason to get angry about it. we all get hundreds of spam everyday. hit the fuckin delete button and quit bitching about it.

plus, receiving an email from a community that you enjoy is a good thing.

Poor PK, you work so hard to create a fantastic site like this and a load of asshats get their knickers in a twist and start getting all excited and abusive!

Same here, just ticked them and hit the delete key .. where is the problem??…. its such a pity that people can get so nasty.  But its always the way, the more you do for some people the more they expect and start take advantage.

I got the email once. Read it, deleted it and was done. Very simple and easy! 😉 Don’t see why it would be a big deal for some people out there.  :unsure:
