Hello ladies 🙂
I was reading the messages and saw that there are some topics about how to get more traffic, how to sell better and more and website questions in general.
Well, I decided to give you a couple of tips and hints on how to make your website more attractive and most importantly more readable. I’m not going to talk about how to do fancy graphics and such. I’d rather want to talk about the purpose and the layout of a panty website 🙂
OK, we all know that your website is about selling your panties. You want more and more people to visit your website and hopefully buy from you. You can make people visit your website by link exchanges, forums, portals, emails etc. That’s the easy part. BUT how do you make the panty fans come again and again and buy from you? Now that requires some planning.
I created an example page for you. It’s not gonna get any design awards but at least it gives some basic layout tips.
The link is http://www.designsdigital.com/example/Notes:
* There is only one image on that page and I grabbed it from some thumnail gallery website. Since its just an example page i thought it wouldnt be a problem. well if it is then let me know.* Only one page is active and that is the page you see. All are dead links.
Here are some of the DOs and DONTs for your website.
Intro Page
You know thats the page where you put the legal mumbo-jumbo and tell them to hit the road or enter the website.Don’t clutter the intro page with all soft of graphics, links and banners. You are telling the visitor that the site is adult oriented. They should leave if they are either under age or offended or other stuff and then put all the other adult banners below. That doesn’t make a lot of sense. It also makes the pages load slower.
Also, don’t put the “Enter/Leave” button or link waaayyy down the page. Make it stand out and make it visible without having to scroll down the page.
_______________________________________________________
Content
Before attempting to create website, write down all the materials you came up with so far in general. How many pages are there going to be?
What are they? (about me, panties etc.)
What is going to be inside the pages?
What am I going to talk about? The content doesn’t revolve around the design.
The Design revolves around the Content!Unless you are a news site or an information site or a portal where there are tons of pages to read and tons of content, make your site fixed width. By that I mean the site doesn’t fill the whole space in your browser. a 700-750px width is perfectly fine.
but why not fill the whole space?
couple of reasons:
First, If you dont’t have a lot of text and the width fills the whole space then your pages will look emptySecond, It makes your text hard to read. Look at any books, newspaper articles etc. You’ll see that they are all written in a narrow space rather than the whole available paper space.
When we read we don’t actually read but scan the bits of information with our eyes and it is just easier to scan in a narrow space. It makes the text easier to read.
_______________________________________________________Mile Long Pages
Some girls like to put everything on one page. The page goes on and on and on and on… By the time you reach the bottom of the page, you have no idea what was in the middle, what was at the top.
Talk about losing concentration!
Break down the pages. Don’t make them a mile long. It’s easier for the visitor to click on “Page 2, Page 3” etc than scrolling down a mile!
It makes your site organized, easier to navigate and faster loading.
_______________________________________________________Text
Breaking it down again!
Seperate your text into paragraphs. Don’t put everything in one paragraph. (Again refer to your local newspaper for examples) 🙂
Use Bulleted Lists! Let’s say you want to talk about the things you sell and things you don’t sell. Again, don’t stuff them into one paragraph. It’s harder to read.
“I sell socks, pantyhose, bras, socks, shoes, tshirts, photos, videos, cam sessions. I don’t do scat, pee, period items.”
(refer to my example page and you’ll see what I mean)
Don’t use HUGE fonts for all your text
AND
Don’t use tiny little text either.Deadly combination: White small text on black background! Try it and see how many people you can blind!
_______________________________________________________Make Them Click
Now I’m not talking about tricky stuff like hidden links, links that go to your affiliates, click throughs and other annoyances.
I’m talking about grabbing interest! Try to make things interesting.
For example instead of saying “I have a red panty for sale” say something like ":cheer:ohmy: you like RED?” then link it to your page. Make your visitor wonder. What is it? a red panty? a red bra? a pair of red socks? hmm.. I think I wanna know!
But DON’T abuse it. We are not playing a guessing game here. We are tying to grab attention and be playful.
Your imagination is your boundry.
* again you can refer to my example page for that
_______________________________________________________
Right Side Reading
That is real life a term used by the designers.
Your important news, announcements, links go to the RIGHT side of the screen.
Just like our eyes tend to scan the text in a paragraph instead of reading it letter by letter, our eyes tend to focus on the right side of a given surface.
Grab a magazine right now. Go ahead. Yes, right now. If 90% of the ADs are not on the right pages then I’ll give you a free panty… uhmm :P  lol
_______________________________________________________
Other Notes
* Drop the Videos! PLEASE! I dont wanna hear britney spears or some other rapper blaring! mad
* Don’t over emphasize! If you are emphasizing everything you are not emphasizing anything!
*Most girls like to do that but PLEASE don’t CENTER all the text on your pages!
_______________________________________________________Design and Layout is not just about opening up Photoshop and using twohundredandsixtyfive filters blindly.
I do believe those little tips makes your pages more “visitor friendly”. Don’t scare them away.
There are many more design elements that I can talk about for example margins, negative space, typography etc. but that would make this post a mile long if it isnt already lol
Feel free to make additions to this post.
I hope you like it.
That’s all for now…

If so, PM PK (Admin) and ask if he could pop a copy of this in the Panty School area 😉

(bye the way I know my website probably makes you cringe as you are a pro. designer, but its mine, its very me and I love it lol)November 28, 2005 at 6:25 pm #5139OzzyMemberHey Cindy
Thanks a lot. 🙂
I hope that article was somewhat useful. You have my full permission to post it anywhere you like. Also, if somebody wants to use that simple page as a base template or a learning pad you are welcome to do so. just copy paste the source code and explore. All the code is in there. There are no external files.
and by the way, your site doesnt make me cringe. not at all. I rather go jo lol… who am i to judge yours or anybody elses creation.
I have a couple of more stuff to write about. since I have a bit of free time these days I can dedicate more time on those.
November 28, 2005 at 6:34 pm #5140Delicious_JessMemberHey all,
I was told by a web designer that a black background is a cardinal sin and website suicide! My finger must’ve slipped cos it still ended up black!!
I think panty sites are so much more dependant on interactive content than design. It’s like one of my gents said “I don’t like sterile sites, yours is like a familiar pair of old slippers” I hope he meant homely and not old, smelly and full of holes!! :cheer:
My two fave panty sites defy the rules, are brimming with stuff and are black. Maybe I’m a bit warped like that, I think beautiful things flower from smashing up the rules (like panty girls!) I must be strange too cos I always ignore right sided columns and when I did merchandising I always was taught and worked from left-center. I’m just an odd one though.

November 28, 2005 at 7:21 pm #5143OzzyMemberHi Jess,
Oh I think you got me wrong here.
They are not RULES, just some guidelines… or tips. 🙂
I think panty sites are so much more dependant on interactive content than design.
I have to disagree on that one because Interactive content requires design. Interactive content has to be in a design too. Would you put your navigation right at the bottom of every page just for the sake of defying rules? Sure you would but would it really work?
As for defying the rules. I have to admit there is a great deal of misunderstanding about that concept. Almost everybody thinks that when you defy the rules you are automatically “free sprited”, “cool” or that you stand on your own and make your own rules.
Yes, “panty girls” defied most of the rules and changed a lot of things. I admit that and I’m happy for it because at least we can now talk about our fetishes openly in our community.
But don’t you agree “panty girls” have rules too. ( or you can call them guidelines). Don’t we have to play this panty game by its own rules? Both buyers and sellers?
Look at Picasso! His paintings are like no one elses, he defied the rules yet he still uses some of the basic, 101 type guidelines. For example? well color contrast, proportions, margins, use of white space and even “the divine ratio”
I once wrote these 2 little articles. Read them if you like.
http://www.designsdigital.com/theory.htmone of my professors used to tell us all the time that you can’t defy the rules unless you know them… but then again the stuff i talked about wasnt rules 🙂

Would you put your navigation right at the bottom of every page just for the sake of defying rules?Funny you should say that actually…. :cheer:
I don’t suggest that there’s a right or wrong way, more that great things come from observing a different angle; ie my black backing being that designers NO-NO but working just fine for me and a few others. The top sites are black, my personality suits black, therefore I’d say the designer that told me not to was wrong in this case.
*This is a quote from my new about me page* “My site’s my baby, it’s like my left arm, an extension of me as a person” so I really don’t think it can ever be wrong. My site’s an online version of me first and a selling site second. I have an affection for it beyond selling. I’m redoing it now as we speak, I’ve done stuff to it that probably hampers it when it comes to selling but it satisfies my personality, but what the hell, people can get around it easily, it doesn’t break any records for sales but it excels for a new site. I’m proud that my place has personality and I’ve got guys that love that, fuzzy around the edges maybe but I love my beautiful mess. I was told just the other day that my site is “wry and cheeky and strong – I love it!” This particular gent laughed out loud at my…wait for it…TERMS & CONDITIONS page! I think even I could teach my designer friend a thing or two!!
The text is over centered, it’s not all that browser friendly at the mo, but it works because it’s like its owner…beautifully flawed. Sometimes stuff outside of the box works. Maybe I see things differently as my site was never made to be a selling machine, more to just have some fan-fucking-tasticly horny fun!!
Wreckless “Free Spirit” makes the world a rosier place.

November 28, 2005 at 11:25 pm #5152adminKeymasterWell Ozzy, what do you have to say about Panty Hog’s new layout? If you didn’t know the old one, you can change back to the retro-hog layout from the chooser at the bottom of the right-hand menu on the index.php page. I think the new look helps to make things easier to find. If you disagree, I always appreciate suggestions. Of course, I’d also have to ban you from the site forever.
lmao I’m only kidding
😉 PK
November 29, 2005 at 8:50 am #5179OzzyMemberhehehe 😉 hey the new layout is cool.
Does it really matter tho when you have so many gorgeous girls on one site? 🙂
