Hi all
1st time posting here but it seems a great place to be.
Ive been selling the odd panties for a while now and so decided to have my own site. The problem being that I have no knowledge whatsoever of html. So I decided to use a sitemaker. The downside to this being its non html :( and I find it basic and too restrictive for me. Take a look if you dont believe me, I want better features (but of course 🙂 )
So now I have to learn html  Ive looked at front page and dreamweaver and of course its just all gobbledygook to me (for now lol) Cindy I read about when you started and look at where you are now with it allÂ
I would have somebody build my site for me (the easy way out) but, I want to be in control. I update my site regularly, I dont want to have to rely on another person. I dont suppose there is such a thing out there for me where I can build a html site without knowledge?? No! didnt think so 😥
Ok so can anybody recommend some good reading for me on this subject? As ive had a go on frontpage and got as far as making a title
Thanks
michelleSeptember 4, 2005 at 1:03 pm #3858AnonymousGuestA girl after my own heart. Join the club sweetheart 😉
I had to work from the floor upwards too and really wanted to template my site but after having a look around people actually prefer something amateur. I was spured on by seeing these really cute sites that everyone claimed was there first try at site building…it’s crap! Don’t believe em’!! Probably was there first site…..after years at college!!
To do mine I use Frontpage 2000 and Cindy (!!) who let me give her a poke whenever there was something I couldn’t get my head around 🙂 Sign up to geocities.com and use the space to experiment. They taught me the little HTML that I know before buying the domain and stuff.
There’s no easy way of doing HTML but if you have frontpage then you only have to learn the basics. All those html tags and stuff make my head hurt too!! Frontpage is a whole different ball game, it’s a challange to master at first but will be your best friend when you do.
My main worry was uploading it all on to the server but it’s ok. I think every girl on here will help nudge you in the right direction if you need some help, they’re all very clever and friendly. Let us know how you get on.

But what about those people who build sites for a living but also like to sell our intimates? A nice looking site is not necessarily the sign of a fake. I know that’s not what you’re implying, but it annoys me sometimes when I hear all that nonsense about sites having to look amateur….
Just my 2 cents. Ha! My first post just had to be controversial! But if you know me from Ebanned you’ll already know that I speak my mind 🙂

Well, sure, if you build sites for a living then yours will look awesome!!!
I think a site should look amateur if the girl claims to have never built a site before (but did this one herself). If it looks professional, then there’s an inconsistency to make buyers scratch their heads.
There is probably a decreased sense of “intimacy” if a site looks like it’s part of an impersonal, large business… I think some guys really like to feel close to the girl they are buying from. But if you state on your “about me” page that you’re a computer whiz, well, that’s a bit different. 🙂
September 4, 2005 at 9:41 pm #3882michellejamesMemberHi guys! Thanks a lot for replies
Not sure about frontpage ever being my “best friend” feel like throwing it out of the window  . Suppose its my fault for trying to teach myself eh? lmao
Im not looking to make a “flash” site, I quite like the basics of mine but, I do want my site to be more interactive (I dislike intensely the message board that I have on my current site) I also dislike the way my pics get distorted on upload
Any way enough of my groans…”pencap” I have downloaded a free trial of namo 6 and up to now its looking pretty good. So will have a play tomorrow see what happens
Thanks again
MichelleSeptember 4, 2005 at 9:43 pm #3883AnonymousGuestHey Chandie,
I don’t think all templates/posh site are owned by fakers and never presume that simply because it’s a template or a nice site it must be run by something owning a pair of testicles. Damn it, even I was going to template given the opportunity, but personally I (just me) find a self built site a tad more reassuring and I know a fair few of my gents (infact all that speak candidly to me) feel the same, so I didn’t count that info as nonsense and made my own beautiful mess. If I had the ability to build a site that looked like some of the pro ones I’d have made one just as pretty and the thought of ":cheer:ohmy:es this make me look like a fake” would never enter my head because…well..I’m not!!
Your site building ability doesn’t represent whether you’re a fake or not. You work to within the best of your ability, if you want to sell on the net but can’t do html you recruit the help of a template, if you can do some html have a pop at it and if you’re a pro do your own. Most have the brains to know when they’re buying from a Y-front wearing bloke who riffles through the local laundry to fill orders regardless of what the site looks like.
Equally so a site doesn’t have to be pro made to look nice, amateur ones look just as good but on a different level.

September 4, 2005 at 11:16 pm #3888cherieMemberHelllo Michelle, and welcome!
I learned some html (and recently a little bit of php) to build my site;? I always think doing the code myself winds up being less confusing in the long run? :P? Especially when you go to update or make changes.
Here’s some websites that really helped me get a handle on stuff:
http://www.lissaexplains.com/index.shtml
(this is a website for teaching html to kids, so we non-computer-geek adults can actually understand it!)http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
This one goes to the html “school” set up by W3, who are the folks responsible for establishing html standardshttp://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/
Another site with lots of how-to web building articles, written (mostly) so that ordinary folks can understand themxox
Cheriep.s.? I am seriously thinking of offering my services (cheap!) as an amateur site builder, if anybody’s interested…
September 5, 2005 at 6:03 am #3891adminKeymasterHi guys,
Interesting thread…my two cents: As someone who has built sites and then sold the design as a template, I think it is interesting that pre-built web site templates have been mentioned as if there were some shame associated with using them.? In my opinion, using these as a resource can result in a perfectly fine site. Keep in mind that the graphical design or look of a web site is not necessarily related to the code that lets your web page do what you want it to do. Html tends to muddy the difference between these two somewhat, but it will be important to understand this if/when you decide to move further than just having your site present static information. The majority of the pre-built templates found at places like templatemonster are actually just the graphical design for a web site. Since they are primarily just the layout or skeleton of a site,? you still need knowledge of html to build the site. That is, the template looks very nice, but you still typically have much work to do before you?ve got a web site. For example, your template might have a beautiful box for member log in, but a great box is all it is until you?ve added the code and script needed to make it functional. If you see a template that catches your eye and seems to have the perfect ?look? you?ve been seeking, using it to jump start the development of your site can save you a great deal of time and frustration. If your perfect design already exists, why spend hours and hours remaking it from scratch when someone else has already done it for you? As a bonus, studying the html code of the template can be very effective for showing a beginner the basics of design. If you?re looking for ideas, or just starting out with your first web site, don?t discount templates as a valuable resource. Some great pre-made templates and web graphics can be found
HERE
.As far the professional vs. amateur appearing used panty selling web sites, don?t forget that some people might have bypassed the whole idea of learning to develop a web site and simply paid someone to do it for them. I?ve built several web sites for panty sellers over the years, and in each case, they were/are completely legitimate sellers, they just weren?t interested in taking the time to do it themselves.

………very good advice, but you have to fiddle with it (code) to figger out what works….
September 7, 2005 at 1:47 pm #3914michellejamesMemberHi and thanks again
I have decided to stick with the sitemaker for now as limiting as it is. I am spending so much time as it is with my current site, there’s just not enough hours in the day 🙁
I think I will find another host for the other things that I want and link off my current site (not sure yet if it will work, I just havent had the time to look into it properly yet)
Anyway, glad I came accross this place as you all seem very friendly and welcoming. I hope to put my “two penneth” in from time to time 😉
